A sparkling half-century by Nepal captain Paras Khadka turned out to be the cornerstone of his side's 30 runs victory against Hong Kong in a Group A match in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2012 at the ICC GCA, Oval 2, Dubai Sports City, on Tuesday.

Khadka clubbed seven fours in a 62-ball 68 as Nepal collected 130-6 after electing to bat first after winning the toss. In turn, Hong Kong was restricted to 100 for nine with only Nizakat Khan offering some kind of a resistance while scoring 31 that included three four and a six from 27 balls.

Khadka, who won the man of the match award, featured in two useful partnerships that helped his side to a defendable score. He dominated a 56-run fourth wicket stand off 47 balls with Gyanendra Malla (26) while for the fifth wicket with Mahaboob Alam (13), the captain put on 34 runs from 19 balls.

The destroyer-in-chief of Hong Kong batting was fast bowler Chandra Sawad who returned impressive figures of 4-0-23-4. He was well supported by Shakti Gauchan (2-11) and Basant Regmi (2-18).

Khadka later said: "The boys put up a really good show on the field. Chandra Sawad, playing his first match for the team, was absolutely fantastic with the new ball.

"To lead from the front is very important to me, but we still have six more very important matches still to go and there is plenty of competition around. This is a very good start for us and hopefully we can carry forward the momentum and move ahead.

"We know that Hong Kong is a good side, but we play each other a lot, and so we had our game plan, and everything worked in our favour. Hats off to the boys for coordinating the plans on the field of play.

"This sets the platform for the rest of the tournament. We are here to compete against the best teams and it all comes down to how we can handle the pressure situations."
